JAITAPUR NUCLEAR POWER PLANT: ANOTHER CATASTROPHE IN THE OFFING

The Indian Government is planning to build the world's largest nuclear plant in Jaitapur in the western state of Maharashtra. The site is a biodiversity hot spot that's also known to have high seismic activity. The plan is an untested, expensive and dangerous gamble with health and land, which is being vehemently opposed.

There are 40 million construction workers in India, who are  amongst the most vulnerable segment of the unorganised workforce in the country due to their temporary nature of work and lack of a definite employee-employer relationship. Dhule, Nandurbar and Jalgaon districts make up the Khandesh region of Maharashtra. Khandesh region lies just south of the great belt of mountains and forests that girdles India, and leads directly into the rich cotton tracts of north east Maharashtra.
