Allegations of corruption, shoddy workmanship and delays in handing over venues have plunged into crisis just two months before the opening ceremony the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi. The construction boom sparked by the games, one million migrant workers poured into Delhi from neighbouring areas in Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal, which are among the poorest in the country. Mostly worked without documentation- usually for much less than Delhi’s minimum wage of Rs. 152 a day- and lived in the squalid makeshift roadside shanties.
