With various factors contributing to unchecked erosion of the banks of Padma River, villages along its course in Jalangi in Murshidabad District of West Bengal have lost farmlands, forcing women and men to migrate to distant places in search of a livelihood.

There are 40 million construction workers in India, who are  amongst the most vulnerable segment of the unorganised workforce in the country due to their temporary nature of work and lack of a definite employee-employer relationship. Dhule, Nandurbar and Jalgaon districts make up the Khandesh region of Maharashtra. Khandesh region lies just south of the great belt of mountains and forests that girdles India, and leads directly into the rich cotton tracts of north east Maharashtra.
