Alang, the world's largest ship-breaking yard at Bhavnagar district in Gujarat, where toxic ships from rich nations are sent for dismantling under the guise of recycling. Workers employed in the yard are exposed to asbestos and other poisons from the ships broken in unsound environmental conditions. The activists from Banwasi Sewa Ashram after their initial work with the local communities for some years, Gram Swarajya Samiti emerged out from the struggle launched for land and forest rights, ecological preservation and gender equity.
